I had difficulty trying to attach this to my previous post which would have made more sense but ......................... WHATEVER!
assignment requirements: a brief overview
- the class was divided into 5 groups (Andrew being the lonely 6th) to make a minimal landscape using water colours, everyone was required to touch the page at least once with their paintbrush to give the effect of "working as a group"
- each student then had to draw 6 required animals (penguin, lion, desert turtle, buffalo, bush baby, and squid)
- in addition we were required to draw 6 other animals relative to each landscape
- we then had to combine our sketchbook drawings and the landscapes using photoshop, and each animal was to have an information tag
- to top everything off, we had to put the “company logo” on each of our finished projects without altering anything but the size of it
>>> Reasoning's as to WHY I chose the animals I did:
_RAINFOREST
I chose the chimpanzee for the rainforest because I loved how they are so versatile and you can put them in any position without making it look peculiar. Also, I used to draw a lot of monkeys back in the day during my awkward pre-teen phase, so I had some experience.
_OCEAN
For the ocean, I decided to chose the swordfish as the additional animal relative to the landscape because I found this amazing picture on googleimages, and fell in love with how happy the swordfish looked, and what better animal to put him with then one that he eats, the squid!
_NORTHERN PLAINS
The main reason I chose the black tailed prairie dog for the northern plains is because after drawing my buffalo, I had come up with the conclusion that he would take up most of the page, therefore, I had to chose an animal that was a lot smaller in comparison to the huge buffalo that I had to incorporate. Also, it just seemed like the right thing to do.
_SAVANNAH
After careful consideration, I chose to do the antelope because, as with my ocean landscape, the lion is the antelopes primary predator and I just thought how exciting it would be to put the two together on one page and force them to coexist. It also just seemed like the right thing to do. Also, I had a friend in grade 5 named Suzannah, and she was skinny like an antelope.
_DESERT
Choosing an animal for the desert was probably the most difficult choice I have ever had to make in my entire life. I played along with different sketches for camels, but they came out looking like dogs with liposuction, then I decided to stray away from the "cute" animals I had been doing i.e. prairie dog and go for something that wasn't furry or looked like it wanted to cuddle, and came across the desert scorpion, somehow though; I managed to make it look less scary and kind of friendly... story of my life.
_ARCTIC
For the arctic, I originally had my heart set on drawing a walrus because they are the definition of the word adorable, but that dream was short lived when I actually attempted to draw one and it just wouldn't co-operate. So I decided to do some research and came across the arctic hare and decided to chose him... no particular reason.
